Keats view of Seasons

 The Human Seasons

FOUR Seasons fill the measure of the year;
There are four seasons in the mind of man:
He has his lusty Spring, when fancy clear
Takes in all beauty with an easy span:
He has his Summer, when luxuriously
Spring’s honey’d cud of youthful thought he loves
To ruminate, and by such dreaming high
Is nearest unto heaven: quiet coves
His soul has in its Autumn, when his wings
He furleth close; contented so to look
On mists in idleness - to let fair things
Pass by unheeded as a threshold brook.
He has his Winter too of pale misfeature,
Or else he would forego his mortal nature.

John Keats published The Human Seasons in 1818 which shows his perspective on nature. This poem compares the seasons and human life and demonstrates how they contract together. Each of the four seasons give people different meanings and feelings to their lives. The measurement relates to the time or period during a persons time of life. For example, the third stanza states that when it is Spring people are high spirited and blooming. Flowers produce in the Spring which could refer to a baby being born.

Summer is when kids are school free and can enjoy life. Those who are luxurious intend to be care free and be able to not worry about any decisions. As the poem continues throughout the summer stage, it mentions a look back of what has happened during Spring. As we grow, people look back from their mistakes that they have made when they were a child growing up.

When Autumn roles a long, it is time for those to slow down their hectic lives. It is a peaceful time period. The soul clams its wings which prevents them from exploring life. In the 10th stanza, it says that he looks content with how life is going. Being idleness is being non active or not working. People usually stop working during their 60s when they have completed most of the things they would like to accomplish in life. They have decided to slow down and close their path.

Winter is the coldest and quietest time of the year. The dullness of the sky over shadows the sun. This seasons is symbolizes the ending of life, other wise known as the death stage.

Nature and human life play a big role in Keats poetry. This is just one of his poetries that show that. In the poem A pot of Basil, a rich family own a business in which they make very well profit from. A girl named Isabella falls in love with a man, but her brothers killed him. They wanted to prevent her from fall in love since it could interfere with the family business.
